  • Aphids give birth to living young (vivaparity) so the offspring develop within the mother's abdomen. Here the faint outline of young pea aphids can be seen. Their red eyes are particularly evident. The wavy white lines in the abdomen are trachaea that provide oxygen to the adult aphid. The white spots on the leaf and aphid are pollen grains.
